Troubleshooting

My AI agent says a PostEverywhere tool is not available.

Some tools are left out of the ChatGPT app and Claude directory, a key may lack a scope, the action may need a role or plan, or the tool list is stale.

Updated 23 October 2026

A tool can be missing for four reasons: your AI app's listing leaves it out on purpose, your API key does not have the scope it needs, the action needs a role or plan you do not have, or your AI app is holding an old copy of the tool list. Check them in that order.

1. The tool is not in your app's listing

ChatGPT app The PostEverywhere app in ChatGPT leaves out ten tools: connect_credential_account, generate_image, generate_caption, get_brand, create_webhook, update_webhook, get_webhook, list_webhooks, delete_webhook and test_webhook. ChatGPT writes captions itself, the app does not take tools that collect passwords or make images, and the Brand Kit and webhook tools are newer and not in the listing yet.

To connect Telegram, Discord, Bluesky or WordPress from ChatGPT, do it on the Accounts page in PostEverywhere instead. For webhooks, use the Developers page or another agent.

Claude connector directory The directory listing leaves out generate_image. Ask Claude to use AI Studio in the app instead, or add PostEverywhere by hand as a custom connector with the address https://mcp.posteverywhere.ai, which has the full set.

Everything else (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, your own code) gets all 44 tools. See What is the PostEverywhere MCP server?.

2. Your API key is missing a scope

This applies when your app uses an API key rather than a sign-in. A key has up to three scopes, chosen when you create it on the Developers page:

  • Read: list and view accounts, posts, results, media, campaigns, webhooks, analytics.
  • Write: create, edit, delete, retry, bulk operations and webhook subscriptions.
  • AI: generate images and captions (uses your plan's AI credits).

A read-only key cannot create posts or upload media. A key without AI cannot use generate_caption or generate_image. The error says insufficient_scope and names the scope that is missing. Scopes cannot be added to an existing key: create a new key with the right scopes and give it to the agent. Connections made by signing in get all three scopes.

Ask the agent to call get_me. It shows the scopes the connection has and what is left on each quota.

3. The action needs a role or your plan

4. Your AI app has an old tool list

AI apps read the tool list when they connect and may keep it for a while. If a tool you expect is missing, disconnect and reconnect: in PostEverywhere open Agents, then Connected, and click Disconnect; then remove and add PostEverywhere in your AI app. See My AI agent cannot connect to PostEverywhere.

Check the Logs page

Open Logs in the sidebar. A call that was refused shows the error code and message, so you can tell a missing scope from a missing tool. See Where can I see what my API keys and AI agents did?.
