AI agents and API
Can an AI agent create drafts and send posts for approval?
Yes. An agent saves a post as a draft with draft: true, and request_approval: true sends it to your owners and admins to approve on the Approvals page.
Yes. An AI agent can save posts as drafts that never publish until a person acts, and it can send a draft straight into your team's approval queue. An owner or admin then approves it, or sends it back with a note.
How it works
- Ask the agent to save the post as a draft. It calls
create_postwithdraft: true. The draft appears in your drafts in PostEverywhere and does not publish. - To send it for review, the agent adds
request_approval: trueto the same call. The post goes to the Approvals page and owners and admins who have post emails turned on get an email. - An approver opens Posts > Approvals in the sidebar and clicks Approve, or Request changes and writes what to change. The author sees that note.
- An approved post still needs scheduling. The agent calls
schedule_postwith a time, orpublish_now: true. One approval covers one publish.
request_approval only works together with draft: true. Without it the request is refused and nothing is created.
Who can approve
Approving is an owner or admin action. In the app, owners and admins see the Approvals inbox; members see My submissions, which shows Waiting for approval or Approved. Schedule it from your drafts.
Agents follow the same rule. approve_post and request_post_changes only work when the agent connection or API key was made by an owner or admin. A connection made by a member gets an insufficient_role error.
Checking the queue from the agent
list_postswithapproval: "pending"lists everything waiting for review.get_postshows one post, including its approval status and any note.approve_posttakes an optional note for the author.request_post_changesneeds a note.
Webhooks
If you want your own system to know when something happens, subscribe a webhook to these events: post.approval_requested when a draft is submitted, post.approved when it is cleared, and post.changes_requested when it is sent back with a note. See Webhooks and the webhooks guide.
