Connecting accounts
Why do I need an Instagram professional account, and how do I switch?
Instagram only lets apps publish to Business or Creator accounts. Switching is free, takes a minute in the Instagram app, and keeps your followers.

Instagram only lets apps like PostEverywhere publish to professional accounts, which means a Business or Creator account. A personal account cannot connect. Switching is free, takes about a minute, and you keep all your followers and posts.
Switch to a professional account
- Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu (three lines), then Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account type and tools.
- Tap Switch to professional account.
- Choose Creator or Business. Both work with PostEverywhere.
- Pick a category and finish the steps.
Then connect
- In PostEverywhere go to Accounts.
- Next to Instagram, click Add Account.
- Sign in to Instagram and approve everything it asks for.
No Facebook Page is needed. Instagram signs you in as yourself first, then asks which account to connect.
What changes when you switch
- You gain Instagram Insights and the ability to connect publishing tools.
- Followers, posts and how your profile looks stay the same.
- A Business account is always public. A Creator account can be private, but it must be public to publish through any app.
- You can switch back to a personal account at any time. Disconnect it from PostEverywhere first.
If the connection still fails
- "Instagram did not complete the connection": the usual cause is a personal account. Check the account type again, then press Add Account and let the Instagram window finish.
- Permissions were not granted: connect again and approve everything Instagram asks for.
- On a phone, the Instagram app opens instead of the sign-in page: connect from a computer, or use a private tab. The Accounts page offers Email me a link for my computer.
- Already Professional and still failing: make sure your browser is signed in to the right Instagram account. Log out of Instagram and try again.
