Connecting accounts
How do I connect a YouTube Brand Account or a second channel?
Connect YouTube from the Accounts page and, on Google's screen, pick the channel or Brand Account by name. Each channel counts as one account.
Updated 23 October 2026
Click Add Account next to YouTube on the Accounts page. If your Google account has several channels, Google shows a list. Pick the channel or Brand Account by its name, not your own name.
Steps
- Open Accounts and click Add Account next to YouTube.
- Sign in with the Google account that manages the channel.
- If Google lists channels or Brand Accounts, pick the one you want.
- Tick every box on Google's permission screen, including Manage your YouTube videos. An unticked box blocks uploads.
- The channel appears in your list. Repeat for each channel.
What is a Brand Account?
A Brand Account is a YouTube channel that is not tied to one person's Google account, so several people can manage it. You probably have one if your channel's name differs from your Google account name, or if other people manage it with you.
Multiple channels
- Connect each channel separately. Each one counts as one account on your plan.
- To change which channel is connected, Disconnect it on the Accounts page and connect again, choosing the right channel.
Troubleshooting
- "Google did not hand us a YouTube channel": the channel usually sits under a different Google account, or is a Brand Account you must pick by name on Google's screen. Press Add Account again and look for a list of channels. If you have never made a channel, create one at youtube.com first.
- Access was denied: tick every checkbox on Google's screen.
- Brand Account not shown: sign in with the Google account that is an owner or manager of it. Check in YouTube Studio that you can switch to the channel.
- Custom thumbnails are refused: YouTube only allows them on phone-verified channels. Verify once at youtube.com/verify.
