Scheduling and publishing
What is the difference between Publish now and Schedule?
Publish now sends the post straight away. Schedule sends it at the time you pick. The button follows the When picker. Videos publish in the background.
Publish now sends the post to the platforms straight away. Schedule sends it at the time you choose. The button label follows the When picker: it says Publish now while the picker says Now, and Schedule once you pick a time.
Publish now
- Leave the When picker on Now.
- Click Publish now.
Image and text posts publish while the composer waits, usually in a few seconds. Video posts are queued and publish in the background, so you can close the composer. The post shows Publishing and then Posted or Failed.
Schedule
- Open the When picker and choose Next queue opening, a Best times slot, a Quick times slot, or Custom Time....
- Click Schedule.
The post shows as Scheduled on the Calendar and goes out at that time.
Differences to know
- Platform limits: PostEverywhere does not cap how much you post. Each platform sets its own limits, and very high volumes, X (Twitter) in particular, can be spaced out or held until the platform allows them. Scheduled posts are held, not refused, when a limit is reached. See the X limits article.
- Approvals: when approvals are on for your workspace, both buttons become Submit for approval.
- Editing: a scheduled post can be edited until it starts publishing. A published post cannot.
