How do I post to X (Twitter) with PostEverywhere?

Connect one or more X (Twitter) accounts and publish posts, threads, polls, quote posts and long-form X Articles.

Connect#

1. Open Accounts and click Add Account next to X.
2. Sign in to X and approve PostEverywhere.

Each X account connects separately. To add another one, click Open X Logout first, then Add Account. On an Android phone the X app can block the sign-in page. Connect from a computer, or use an incognito tab.

X counts emojis and some characters as two. If a post is over the limit, the editor tells you by how much.

Settings in the post editor#

Open Customise per platform and the X card.

• Who can reply: Everyone, People you follow or Only people you mention.
• Add poll: 2 to 4 options and a duration from 5 minutes to 7 days.
• Quote post: paste the URL of the post you want to quote.
• Community: search for a community you belong to and post into it.
• Thread: click Add Thread to write the next post in the chain. Each post has its own character limit.
• Label as made with AI and Label as paid partnership.
• Alt text for each image.

First comments work on X. PostEverywhere posts the comment as a reply right after the post goes live.

X Articles#

Choose X Article at the top of the post editor. An article has a title, a body and one cover image, publishes to X only, and needs X Premium on the account. X limits how many Articles an account can publish in a day; extra Articles are held and sent when X allows them.

Troubleshooting#

• Post refused for length: shorten it to 280 characters, or post from an account with X Premium.
• Video refused: free accounts are limited to 2 minutes 20 seconds. Trim the video or use X Premium.
• Reconnect needed: X signs apps out when you change your password. Click Reconnect on the Accounts page.
