How do I connect Codex CLI to PostEverywhere?

Run the two commands from the Agents page, then sign in and approve in your browser. Codex CLI connects without an API key.

Updated 23 October 2026

Run the two commands from the Codex CLI card on the Agents page, then sign in to PostEverywhere in your browser and click Approve. No API key is needed.

Steps

  1. In PostEverywhere, click Agents in the sidebar (app.posteverywhere.ai/agents?agent=codex) and choose Codex CLI. If you have not connected a social account yet, the page asks you to do that first. Click Connect a social account.
  2. Click Copy commands. The card also shows both commands in a box with its own Copy button:
codex mcp add posteverywhere --url https://mcp.posteverywhere.ai
    codex mcp login posteverywhere

  3. Paste them into your terminal and run them.
  4. The login opens your browser. Sign in if asked, check the account next to Signed in as, then click Approve.
  5. In Codex CLI, ask: "Show me my connected social accounts on PostEverywhere."

The first command adds PostEverywhere's hosted MCP server, https://mcp.posteverywhere.ai. The second one signs you in. If you have no plan or trial yet, PostEverywhere asks you to choose one at step 4, then brings you back to Approve. Check Codex CLI's own plan for MCP support.

Disconnect

  1. In PostEverywhere, open Agents and click the Connected tab.
  2. Find the Codex connection and click Disconnect. Click Disconnect again to confirm.

It stops working at once. The list uses the name Codex gives itself, so it may read a little differently. Only an owner or admin of your team can disconnect. If you are a member, ask one of them. The same connection is also listed on Developers → API Keys, where the bin icon revokes it.

To remove PostEverywhere from Codex CLI too, run codex mcp remove posteverywhere. To connect again after a disconnect, run codex mcp login posteverywhere and approve. If you removed it, run both commands from the card again.

If it does not connect

Codex CLI does not show the PostEverywhere tools Run codex mcp login posteverywhere again, then sign in and click Approve. If you added the server by editing ~/.codex/config.toml by hand, check the section header. It must read [mcp_servers.posteverywhere], with an underscore. The next line is url = "https://mcp.posteverywhere.ai". A mistyped header loads nothing, with no error.
