Setup in a minute

How to schedule Bluesky posts

Bluesky accounts connect with an app password rather than an OAuth screen. You create one in Bluesky’s settings, paste it into PostEverywhere with your handle, and from then on scheduling works like any other account.

  1. Step 1

    Create an app password.

In Bluesky, open Settings, then App Passwords, and add one named PostEverywhere. It looks like four groups of four characters.

  2. Step 2

    Connect your handle.

In PostEverywhere, open Accounts, choose Connect Bluesky, and enter your handle (yourname.bsky.social or your own domain) with the app password.

    • Write the post. Type up to 300 characters, add up to four images or one video, or switch to Thread mode for a longer chain.
  3. Step 3

    Pick a time and schedule.

Choose a date and time or the next queue opening. The post publishes to your profile on the minute.

Bluesky content specs and limits: 300-character posts, images and video

Bluesky runs on the open AT Protocol, so a scheduler can publish for you at the time you choose with no phone reminder or manual confirmation. These are the formats you can queue, with the limits PostEverywhere checks before a post goes out.
FormatBluesky limit
Text postUp to 300 characters, with a live count in the composer
Image postUp to 4 images (JPEG, PNG or WebP)
Video postOne video, up to 100 MB and 3 minutes
ThreadA chain of connected posts written under Thread replies, each up to 300 characters
Links, mentions, hashtagsDetected from plain text and made clickable, with no special formatting
Alt TextUp to 1,000 characters describing your images, in the Alt Text field

Links in a scheduled post are clickable, but PostEverywhere does not attach a link preview card, and quote posts are not supported. If you reuse visuals from other networks, check our social media aspect ratios reference or the Bluesky image sizes guide first.

Bluesky scheduling, answered

Straight answers on scheduling, planning and automating Bluesky posts

What people search about scheduling on Bluesky, its API over the AT Protocol and letting an AI agent post, answered in full.

Can you schedule Bluesky posts?

Yes, with a third-party scheduler: Bluesky’s own composer posts immediately and has no schedule option, but the open AT Protocol lets PostEverywhere create each post on your account at the time you set.

A scheduled post is made through the same protocol call as one typed in the app, so it reaches followers and feeds as an ordinary post. Reach comes from replies, reposts and feed relevance, which our guide to how the Bluesky algorithm works unpacks.

How do I schedule a Bluesky post with an app password?

Create an app password in Bluesky, connect your handle with it in PostEverywhere once, then write the post and pick a date and time or the next queue opening.

After that first connection, scheduling is the same as for any other account, from a computer, a phone browser or the iPhone app. The post publishes to your profile on the minute and shows as Posted in your calendar.

Why does Bluesky use an app password, and is it safe?

Bluesky accounts connect with an app password rather than an OAuth screen, and it is the safe way to do it: the app password can post for you, it is separate from your login, and you can revoke it in Bluesky’s settings at any time.

Never give a scheduler your main Bluesky password; PostEverywhere never asks for it. Create one app password per tool, so revoking PostEverywhere’s leaves everything else connected.

Is there a free way to schedule Bluesky posts?

PostEverywhere has no free plan; Bluesky is included on every plan from $9 a month, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

A card is needed to begin, $0 is due today and you can cancel anytime in the trial. Starter is $19, Growth $29 and Scale $39 a month if you need more accounts or seats (pricing).

Bluesky planner: how do I plan a week of Bluesky posts?

If you are after a planner for what you post on Bluesky, PostEverywhere puts every scheduled post and thread on its day in a week or month content calendar.

See which days are still empty, drag a post to a better slot, and let new posts take the next opening in your posting queue. If the week needs topics, our 100 Bluesky content ideas is a good place to start.

How do I schedule a Bluesky thread?

Switch the composer to Thread mode and write each post under Thread replies; the whole chain publishes in order, each post a reply to the one before, at the time you choose.

Each post in a thread has its own 300-character limit, and AI Studio can split a longer idea into a numbered thread for you to edit.

Can I schedule images and video to Bluesky?

Yes. Schedule up to four images, each with alt text, or one video of up to 100 MB and 3 minutes.

Large images are recompressed to fit Bluesky’s per-image limit, so you can upload full-resolution files. Sizes for posts, avatars and banners are in our Bluesky aspect ratios guide.

Can I add content warnings and control who can reply?

Yes. The Bluesky panel in the composer has Content warning, Who can reply and Language settings, saved with each post and applied when it publishes.

Label sensitive images so followers choose whether to see them, narrow replies on an announcement you do not want derailed, and tag the language so feeds that filter by language pick the post up correctly.

What can’t you schedule to Bluesky?

PostEverywhere does not attach link preview cards to Bluesky posts and does not publish quote posts; links in the text are still clickable.

Published posts cannot be edited either, because the AT Protocol has no edit operation: delete the post in Bluesky and schedule it again. Comparing networks before you commit? Read Bluesky vs X.

Can I post to Bluesky from my own code?

Yes. Bluesky runs on the open AT Protocol, which anyone can post to without developer approval, and PostEverywhere’s REST API sits on top of it so you publish or schedule with one request.

Posting over the protocol yourself means managing sessions, building rich-text facets for every link, mention and hashtag, and keeping images under the per-blob size limit. PostEverywhere does all three: send POST /v1/posts with raw text and media IDs, using a key from the Developers page, on every plan.

The Bluesky API guide lists the fields, and our article on posting to Bluesky with an API covers the protocol side and its rate limits.

Is there a Bluesky MCP server for the AT Protocol?

Yes. PostEverywhere’s hosted MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client the tools to write, schedule and draft Bluesky posts and threads over the AT Protocol.

It is not made by Bluesky; it runs on the accounts you connect, and because Bluesky needs no developer approval, an agent can post as soon as the account is connected. Setup for each assistant is on the AI agents page.

Can ChatGPT or Claude write and post Bluesky threads?

Yes. Connect Claude (setup) or ChatGPT (setup) to PostEverywhere and ask in plain English; the post publishes now, is scheduled, or waits as a draft, and lands in your calendar either way.

The assistant reads Bluesky’s rules before writing, so posts come back under 300 characters, and it can write a full thread. Agent posts skip approvals, so ask for a draft whenever a person should read it first.

Can I auto post to Bluesky from a queue or a CSV?

Yes. Scheduled Bluesky posts publish automatically at their time, with no app left open.

Set queue openings once and each new post takes the next free slot, load a month from a CSV, or let the API or an AI agent add posts as they are written.

How do I manage several Bluesky accounts?

Connect each account with its own app password and pick which one each post comes from; all of them share one calendar.

Each counts toward your plan’s account limit, from 2 on Lite to 20 on Scale, and teammates on plans with extra seats schedule from the same workspace. PostEverywhere covers publishing and engagement stats; moderation lists, blocks and messages stay in the Bluesky app.

Which Bluesky analytics can I see?

Likes, replies and reposts for each Bluesky post you publish, in PostEverywhere Analytics.

Bluesky does not report views, so there is no view count for those posts; judge them by the conversation they start.

Bluesky rewards plain, conversational posts more than polished marketing copy. AI Studio drafts posts in that register and keeps them inside 300 characters, so you edit a good first version instead of counting characters. See the AI content generator for everything it writes.

Why schedule Bluesky

Schedule Bluesky posts for a consistent daily presence in Following and Discover

Bluesky is a network of feeds. Following, Discover and the many custom feeds people build all surface posts that earn early replies and reposts, and accounts that show up every day give those feeds more to pick from. Batch the week in one sitting with a social media scheduler and you stay present without opening the app every few hours.

General starting points, not measured from your audience.

  • The posting queue handles the rhythm. Set weekly openings once and every post you add takes the next free slot. The presets are general starting points rather than measured from your followers, and our best time to post on Bluesky guide helps you pick openings that suit your audience.

  • Scheduling is not the same as going quiet. Use the time it saves to reply, because conversation is what the Bluesky algorithm and the custom feeds reward. If you also run accounts elsewhere, cross-posting lets you write each version separately from one composer.

  • Developers can schedule Bluesky from code too. The developer API uses the same request for every network, and handles the AT Protocol session and rich-text facets for you.

Connect your AI agent

Or let your AI agent handle Bluesky, from short posts to drafted threads

PostEverywhere is the agentic social media scheduler that works with all AI agents. Connect your assistant to the hosted MCP server and it can write Bluesky posts that respect the 300-character limit, and either post right away, schedule for the hour you ask, or save a draft for you to review. Longer ideas become threads, which it can post now, schedule or save as drafts. The full API is included on every plan.

Building against the protocol yourself instead? Our Bluesky API guide covers the endpoints, rich-text facets and the rate limits that catch most first integrations.

Connect any AI agent.

It schedules and publishes.
Your agent can post now, schedule for later or save a draft for you to review. Every post lands in your calendar, and scheduled posts go out on time through each network's official API.

Bluesky MCP server: your agent posts over the AT Protocol

One connector address gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client the tools to write and schedule Bluesky posts. It publishes over the AT Protocol on the accounts you connect, it is not made by Bluesky, and setup for each assistant is on the AI agents page.

Short by default.
The agent reads Bluesky’s rules before writing, so a post comes back under 300 characters instead of trimmed LinkedIn copy.
Threads on request.
Ask for “a five-post thread on our launch” and the agent writes each post under 300 characters; the thread posts or schedules as connected replies.
Works from the first minute.
There is no developer approval to wait for on Bluesky, so the agent can schedule as soon as the account is connected.
Now, later or a draft.
Give no time and the post goes out now; give a time and it is scheduled; ask for a draft and it waits in the calendar for you to review. Agent posts skip approvals, so say “draft” whenever a person should read it first.
Check what is coming up.
Ask “what is scheduled on Bluesky this week?” and the agent lists the posts in your calendar.
