Feed posts, Reels, Stories and Trial Reels from one calendar
Everything PostEverywhere does with Instagram
One connection covers the whole Instagram job, from the grid you plan to the saves you earn.
- Plan the grid.
- Feed posts, carousels, Reels, Stories and Trial Reels sit side by side in the content calendar, so the format mix is planned, not accidental.
- Write captions that fit.
- AI Studio drafts captions and hashtags inside Instagram's 2,200 characters and makes 4:5 images and 9:16 Reel covers to go with them.
- Publish every format.
- Pick Feed Post, Reels, Story or Trial Reel per post, add alt text and a cover, and it publishes through the official Instagram API on the minute.
- Test hooks on non-followers.
- Schedule a Trial Reel so a new idea reaches non-followers first, then keep the version that wins.
- Read what landed.
- Analytics shows views, impressions, likes, comments and saves for every post, however the account is connected.
- Hand it to your AI agent.
- Ask Claude, ChatGPT or any agent to plan a week of Reels and carousels and it picks the post type for each.
From desktop or iPhone, in five steps
How to schedule Instagram posts from desktop or iPhone
To schedule Instagram posts, connect an Instagram professional account, add your images or video, choose the Post Type, write the caption, pick a time and let it publish. You never need a phone reminder or a tap to confirm, because PostEverywhere publishes through the official Instagram API. The steps below follow the web composer; the iPhone app lets you schedule and manage posts when you are away from your desk.

kiln-countdown.jpgInstagram scheduling, answered
What people ask before they schedule Instagram with PostEverywhere
Straight answers on Reels, Stories, carousels, pricing, analytics, the Instagram API and AI agents, in the words people search for them.
Can you schedule Instagram posts?
Yes. PostEverywhere schedules Instagram (IG) feed posts, image carousels, Reels, Stories and Trial Reels, and each one goes live by itself at the minute you pick through the official Instagram API.
Instagram's own app and Meta Business Suite can schedule as well, one post at a time and only inside Meta's apps. Whatever tool you use, the account has to be a Business or Creator profile, because Instagram blocks API publishing from personal accounts.
Scheduling does not cost you reach. Instagram ranks a post by how people respond to it (watch time, sends, saves, comments), so a Reel that goes out through the API at 6pm is treated exactly like one you tapped out by hand at 6pm. How the Instagram algorithm works covers those signals surface by surface.
How do I schedule Instagram posts from my computer?
Open PostEverywhere in any desktop browser, connect your Instagram professional account, build the post in the composer and give it a date and time. Nothing has to happen on your phone afterwards.
Away from your desk, the same composer runs in your phone's browser, and the PostEverywhere iPhone app schedules Instagram too. For screenshots of every step, read how to post to Instagram from desktop. The order that avoids errors:
- Attach the media first: a single image, 2 to 10 images for a carousel, or one video.
- Set Post Type to Feed Post, Reels, Story or Trial Reel.
- Write the caption, or press Write with AI, staying inside 2,200 characters and 5 hashtags.
- Choose a date and time, or Next queue opening to drop it into your posting queue.
- Check it on the calendar, where a drag moves it to another day.
Can you schedule Instagram Stories?
Yes. Set the Post Type to Story, attach a single image or video, and pick the time. PostEverywhere publishes the Story at that minute and Instagram removes it 24 hours later, as with any Story.
The API cannot add interactive stickers. Polls, question boxes, music and link stickers have to be placed in the Instagram app, so put any text into the image or video itself and keep the sticker Stories for posting by hand.
Need something to post? Start with these Instagram Story ideas, check the best time to schedule Instagram Stories, and see Reels vs Stories for which format suits which job.
How do I schedule Instagram Reels?
Attach a vertical video, leave Post Type on Reels (every video outside a Story publishes as a Reel), write the caption and choose a time. PostEverywhere then posts the Reel automatically on every plan, with no reminder to tap.
Working from a laptop? Our guide to posting Reels from desktop walks through it. Short of a hook? Pick from these Reels ideas and time them with the best time to schedule Reels.
The same file can go out as a Facebook Reel in the same post: tick your Facebook Page next to Instagram, as in cross-posting Instagram Reels to Facebook Reels. Before you schedule, check four things:
- A Business or Creator account, since no tool can auto-publish Reels to a personal one.
- An MP4 or MOV file between 3 seconds and 15 minutes, framed 9:16 so nothing gets cropped (every size is in Instagram aspect ratios).
- The sound already in the file. Trending tracks from Instagram's audio library are not offered through the API, so add one in the Instagram app, export the result and schedule that export; original audio and music you own work as they are.
- A cover, picked from a frame or uploaded as an image in the composer, so the Reel tile on your grid looks finished.
Does PostEverywhere support Instagram Trial Reels?
Yes. Trial Reel is one of the four Post Types in PostEverywhere, with its own caption, cover and time. A Trial Reel is a Reel that Instagram shows to non-followers before your followers; our guide to what Instagram Trial Reels are covers how they work and when to use them.
It only reaches your followers if it performs, because PostEverywhere sends the performance-based setting Instagram documents for trials. Schedule two cuts of the same idea on different days and keep the stronger one. More in what are Instagram Trial Reels.
Can you schedule Instagram carousels?
Yes, as long as every slide is an image. Attach 2 to 10 images in PostEverywhere, set their order, and they publish together as one swipeable post.
Instagram will not accept a carousel with a video slide through its API, so a clip needs its own Reel. Give each image alt text of up to 100 characters so screen-reader users get the slide too.
For slide order, hooks and length, follow these Instagram carousel best practices, and see the best time to schedule carousels for timing.
What is the best Instagram scheduler for Reels?
PostEverywhere is the best fit for most creators and teams: it auto-publishes Reels, Trial Reels, Stories and carousels through the official API, lets you choose the Reel cover, and your AI agent can schedule on the same account. The comparison table sets it against Later, Buffer, SocialBee, Planable, Sked Social and Hootsuite.
If you only ever post to Facebook and Instagram and never need an agent, Meta Business Suite is the free native route. When a Reel should also reach TikTok, YouTube Shorts and the rest, PostEverywhere sends the one video to each network with its own caption.
Is there a free Instagram scheduler for Reels and posts?
Meta's own tools are free: professional accounts can schedule a post or Reel in the Instagram app under Advanced settings, or on desktop in Meta Business Suite, for Instagram and Facebook only. PostEverywhere is a paid tool with no free plan.
PostEverywhere costs $9 a month on Lite (2 connected accounts), $19 on Starter, $29 on Growth and $39 on Scale (20 accounts). Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. A card is needed to begin, nothing is taken on day one, and cancelling inside the seven days means you never pay. Full details on pricing.
Is there an Instagram planner and content calendar?
Yes. The PostEverywhere content calendar works as an Instagram planner: every scheduled Reel, carousel, Story and Trial Reel sits on its day in a week or month view.
Changing the plan is a drag to another day. If you would rather not pick times at all, set the queue once with a preset (Steady weekdays, Commute and lunch or Always on) and each new post takes the next free opening. To fill the plan, borrow from 100 Instagram content ideas or the free content calendar templates.
What Instagram analytics does PostEverywhere show for Reels, carousels and posts?
PostEverywhere Analytics reports views, impressions, likes, comments and saves for each Instagram post, with identical numbers whether you connected through Instagram Login or a linked Facebook Page.
Post numbers refresh every 4 hours, the Posts tab sorts by views, likes or comments, and the Delivery tab lists any post that failed alongside the reason Instagram gave. Shares and reach are not part of the Instagram post view. To turn the numbers into a rate, use the Instagram engagement rate calculator, and read Instagram metrics and KPIs for what each one tells you.
Can I manage several Instagram accounts in one place?
Yes. PostEverywhere puts every Instagram account you run in one dashboard, from a single brand to a list of client accounts, each with its own calendar view and queue.
Lite covers 2 connected accounts, Starter 5, Growth 10 and Scale 20, counted across all your networks. Scale adds up to 5 workspaces to keep clients apart, and approvals for team members start on Starter. See multi-account management.
No Facebook Page is required. Sign in with Instagram's own login, or, if the account is already linked to a Page, connect it through that Page; the analytics match either way, and both routes need a Business or Creator account.
How do I automate Instagram posts?
Schedule the post in PostEverywhere and it publishes itself through the official API at the scheduled minute, with no push notification and nothing to finish in the app. Some schedulers only send a reminder and leave the last tap to you, so try any tool with one real Reel before paying for a year.
For hands-off Instagram automation there are three routes:
- The posting queue, which slots each new post into your next opening.
- Bulk scheduling from a .csv of up to 200 posts, carousel slides named by Media Library filename.
- The REST API or an AI agent, for posts triggered by your own tools or by a chat request.
Why can't I schedule posts on Instagram?
Most often the account is a personal one. Instagram only allows scheduled publishing from Business and Creator accounts, and the switch is free in the app's settings.
If the account type is already right, look for one of these:
- An expired connection after a password or two-factor change: reconnect it from the Accounts page.
- A carousel with a video slide, which Instagram refuses.
- A caption over 2,200 characters or with more than 5 hashtags.
- No media at all, since Instagram has no text-only posts.
How do I see scheduled posts on Instagram?
Open the content calendar in PostEverywhere. Posts you schedule here wait in PostEverywhere until their time and then publish through the official Instagram API, so they show in your calendar and the All Posts list rather than in Instagram’s own scheduled list.
Switch between week and month views, filter by account, and click any post to edit the caption, move it to another day or delete it before it goes out. After it publishes, the post is marked as published, or as failed with the reason Instagram gave so you can fix it and retry.
Is there an Instagram scheduler app for your phone?
Yes. The PostEverywhere iPhone app schedules posts to Instagram and your other connected accounts. On any other phone, the PostEverywhere web app works in the browser, so you can check the week and fix a caption wherever you are.
Can I schedule Instagram posts from my own code?
Yes. Instagram's official one is Meta's Instagram Platform API, and PostEverywhere's REST API sits on top of it, so a single POST /v1/posts request schedules a feed post, carousel, Reel, Story or Trial Reel.
Building on Meta's API directly means registering an app, getting publishing permissions through Meta's app review, and juggling access tokens and media containers yourself. With PostEverywhere the account owner connects once and your code only sends the post, on every plan including Lite. The Instagram API guide lists every field, and scheduling Instagram posts with an API has worked examples.
Is there an Instagram MCP server?
Yes. PostEverywhere runs a hosted MCP server at mcp.posteverywhere.ai/mcp that lets any MCP client publish and schedule Instagram posts on the accounts you have connected.
Through it your agent can import media from a URL, create posts with the Instagram post type set, check how each one published and retry failures. It calls the official API rather than driving the Instagram app or scraping it. Setup for each client is on the AI agents page.
Can ChatGPT or Claude post Reels and carousels to Instagram?
Yes, once you connect them to PostEverywhere. Add the PostEverywhere connector in Claude, or a custom connector in ChatGPT, then ask in plain English, for example "schedule this clip as a Reel for Tuesday at 6pm".
The assistant picks the post type, uploads your media and either publishes straight away or schedules it. Ask for a draft when you want to proofread first, since a live Instagram caption cannot be changed through the API. Cursor and other MCP clients work the same way, and the Reel cover is the one choice you make yourself in the composer.
Feed Post, Reels, Story or Trial Reel
Schedule feed posts, carousels, Reels, and Stories from one Post Type menu
Every Instagram format sits behind one control. Set Post Type per account and PostEverywhere publishes it the way Instagram expects, so you are not flipping between the app for Stories and Meta Business Suite for Reels.
- Feed posts and image carousels.
- A single image, or a carousel of 2 to 10 images in the order you set. Carousels are images only, so keep clips for a Reel.
- Reels.
- Any video you schedule outside a Story becomes a Reel, from a 3-second loop up to a 15-minute upload.
- Stories.
- One image or one video that lives for 24 hours. Polls, question boxes and link stickers are app-only features, so add those by hand.

48/100Trial Reels and Reel covers
Test a hook on non-followers with a Trial Reel, then choose the cover your grid shows
Trial Reels are the safest way to try a risky idea: Instagram shows the Reel to people who do not follow you before your own followers see it. Schedule two takes on different days, keep the one that lands, and set a Cover Photo on each so the grid still looks finished.
- Trial Reel as a Post Type.
- Line up a Trial Reel exactly like any other post, with its own caption and time.
- Pick a frame.
- Scrub to the frame that reads best as a thumbnail and use it as the cover.
- Or upload a designed cover.
- Drop in a branded title card so every Reel tile on your profile matches.

Captions, hashtags and alt text
Generate captions and hashtags that match Instagram's algorithm, inside the 2,200-character limit
On a Reel the hook in the first second does the heavy lifting. On a carousel or feed post the caption is what turns a like into a save. AI Studio writes for Instagram’s format, and the free Instagram caption generator, hashtag generator and viral hook generator help when you want options to pick from.
- Caption writer.
- A hook in the first line, a reason to save in the middle, and a question at the end that invites comments.
- Hashtags that fit the post.
- Ask for a short, relevant set rather than the full 30, and keep them plain text so Instagram can read them.
- Alt Text on every image.
- Describe each photo in up to 100 characters for people using screen readers.

Content calendar and posting queue
Plan your Instagram content calendar a week of Reels, carousels and Stories at a time
Lay the week out before you film it. The content calendar shows every Reel, carousel and Story per day, so you can see at a glance whether Thursday has only Stories or the grid has gone three days without a feed post. Drag a post to a new slot when a shoot slips, and let the posting queue hand new drafts the next free opening.
- A format mix you can see.
- Reels, carousels, Stories and Trial Reels sit side by side, so the balance between reach and saves is planned rather than accidental.
- Queue openings.
- Pick a preset such as Steady weekdays, then each new Instagram post takes the next empty slot.
- Reschedule with a drag.
- Move a Reel from Tuesday to Friday without rewriting the caption or re-uploading the video.

Every Instagram account, one dashboard, whichever way you connect it
Run a brand account, a founder account and client accounts side by side, each with its own calendar view and queue. Plans cover from 2 to 20 connected accounts, and multi-account management is built for agencies and creator teams.
- Two ways in.
- Sign in with Instagram directly, or connect the Business or Creator account already linked to a Facebook Page you manage.
- The same stats either way.
- Instagram Login or a linked Page, Analytics reports views, impressions, likes, comments and saves for every post.

Post results in Analytics
See which Instagram posts land, in Analytics, then plan more of what works
Once a post is live, Analytics pulls its numbers back from Instagram. Every post reports views, impressions, likes, comments and saves, however the account is connected, so you can see whether a carousel earned saves or a Reel earned views.
- Posts sorted by what matters.
- The Posts tab ranks your Instagram posts by views, likes or comments, so the Reel worth remaking is at the top.
- Refreshed through the day.
- Post metrics update every 4 hours, and the Audience tab records your follower count once a day.
- Failed posts explained.
- The Delivery tab lists any Instagram post that did not publish and the reason Instagram gave, so you can fix it and retry.

Instagram automation
Automate Instagram posts with a queue, a spreadsheet or your AI agent
Automating Instagram does not have to mean bots or reminders. PostEverywhere publishes each post itself through the official Instagram API at its time, and you choose how the posts get there: a weekly posting queue that fills itself, a bulk CSV upload for a month at once, or an AI agent that plans and schedules from one request.
- Queue openings.
- Set the weekly times your account posts and every new Reel or carousel drops into the next free opening.
- A month from one file.
- Upload a CSV of feed posts, Reels, Stories and carousels and review every row before it schedules.
- Hands-free publishing.
- No push notification and no last tap in the app: the post goes live on the minute, and a failure tells you why.

Your Reels, Stories and carousels, before they post
See, edit and reschedule every scheduled Instagram post
Instagram’s own scheduled list only shows what you scheduled inside the app. Everything you schedule in PostEverywhere lives in its content calendar: every account, every format, filterable by account and status, with each post one click from editing.
- Week and month views.
- Reels, carousels, Stories and Trial Reels sit on their day with their time and account.
- Edit until it goes live.
- Change the caption or cover, drag the post to another day, or delete it.

Each format earns something different. Reels are how new people find you through the Reels tab and Explore. Carousels earn saves and shares because people swipe back to them. Stories keep your existing followers close and are where polls and questions live. Our guide to how the Instagram algorithm works covers the ranking signals behind each surface.
Trial Reels change how you test. Instead of posting a risky hook to everyone, a Trial Reel goes to non-followers first, so a weak opening never reaches your core audience. Line up two versions of an idea on different days and keep the one that wins.
Plan around the app-only extras. Trending licensed audio is not available through the API, so add the sound in the Instagram app, export the video with it baked in, then schedule that file. Interactive Story stickers (polls, questions, link and music stickers) are app-only too, so schedule your informational Stories and post the interactive ones by hand.
Timing helps a post get its first engagement. Our best time to post on Instagram guide covers the usual windows. Once posts are live, Analytics shows views, impressions, likes, comments and saves for each one. Pair it with the Instagram engagement rate calculator to see whether a new cadence is paying off.
Account type is the requirement that catches people out. Instagram only lets Business and Creator accounts publish through its API, so no scheduler can auto-publish to a personal account. Switching is free, takes a minute, and keeps your followers and posts.
One Reel can travel further. Instagram gets its own openings in the posting queue, and when a post should also reach your other accounts, cross-posting sends it there with a caption written for each network: Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Threads, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bluesky, Telegram or Discord.

Instagram MCP server: your agent picks the feed post, Reel, Story or Trial Reel
An Instagram MCP server lets an assistant publish to Instagram by calling tools instead of driving a browser. PostEverywhere’s hosted server works with ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and any MCP client, publishes through the official Instagram API on accounts you have authorised, and is not a scraper. Setup for each assistant is on the AI agents page.
- Four formats, chosen explicitly.
- Feed post, Reel, Story and Trial Reel are separate formats, so “put this out as a Story” does exactly that.
- Media first.
- Instagram will not take a text-only post, so the agent uploads your image or video from a URL before it schedules.
- Now, later or a draft.
- With no time given the agent publishes straight away, with a time it schedules, and when you ask for a draft it waits in your calendar for you to review.
- Captions are hard to fix later.
- Instagram does not allow caption edits through the API, so a typo means delete and repost. A draft lets you read it first.
- Covers stay with you.
- Agents cannot set a Reel cover, so open the post in the composer when the thumbnail matters.

Schedule Instagram from your own code: one request, every format
Send one POST /v1/posts request and PostEverywhere publishes it through the official Instagram API at the time you set, with Meta app review, access tokens and media containers handled on our side. The body is the same one the create_post MCP tool takes.
- platform_content.instagram
- Set contentType to "Post", "Reels", "Story" or "Trial Reel", swap in an Instagram-only caption with content, and describe each image with settings.altText in up to 100 characters.
- Media by URL or upload
- Import an image or MP4 with POST /v1/media/upload-from-url (upload_media_from_url over MCP) or the upload endpoints, then pass the media_ids you get back. A Reel cover goes in the top-level cover_photo object.
- Webhooks when it lands
- Subscribe to post.published and post.failed to hear the moment a Reel goes live or Instagram turns it down, and to account.reconnect_needed when a login has expired.
- Keys on the Developers page
- Any plan, $9 Lite included, can mint API keys from Developers. Each key handles 60 requests a minute and 1,000 an hour, plenty for a full content calendar.
