Setup in the terminal
Add the PostEverywhere MCP server to Claude Code from the terminal
Claude Code connects to the hosted server at mcp.posteverywhere.ai with your API key in a header, so there is nothing to install or keep running. If you would rather run the open-source server on your own machine, step four shows the local version. Both give Claude Code the same 38 tools.
- 1
Create an API key.
In PostEverywhere, open Developers in the sidebar (under MANAGE) and create a key. It starts with pe_live_ and is shown once, so copy it somewhere safe. Connect the social profiles you want to post to under Accounts while you are there.
- 2
Run one command.
Paste this into your terminal with your own key. By default Claude Code ties a server to the folder you run the command in; add -s user to make PostEverywhere available in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http posteverywhere \ https://mcp.posteverywhere.ai \ --header "Authorization: Bearer pe_live_YOUR_KEY" - 3
Check it loaded.
Start Claude Code and type /mcp to see PostEverywhere and its status, or run claude mcp list from your shell. Then ask “Show me my connected social accounts on PostEverywhere.” Claude Code calls list_accounts and prints your profiles.
- 4
Or run the MCP server locally with npx.
Prefer to keep the server on your machine, or your network blocks outside MCP endpoints? Run the @posteverywhere/mcp package instead. It needs Node.js 18 or newer and reads your key from an environment variable.
claude mcp add-json posteverywhere '{ "type": "stdio", "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@posteverywhere/mcp"], "env": { "POSTEVERYWHERE_API_KEY": "pe_live_YOUR_KEY" } }'
What you need to connect Claude Code to social media
Claude Code installed and signed in, a PostEverywhere account with at least one social profile connected, and an API key from the Developers page. The local option also needs Node.js 18 or newer. API and MCP access come with every PostEverywhere plan; there is no separate developer tier.
What you can ask
Claude Code prompts to schedule social media posts from your terminal
The advantage over a chat window is context. Claude Code already has your repository open, so it can read commits, release notes and docs before it writes. Every request below maps to real PostEverywhere tools, and Claude Code shows each call for approval before it runs.
“Summarise the last ten commits on this branch into a build-in-public post and schedule it for tomorrow at 8am.”
Reads git history, writes one post, books it.
“Turn docs/launch.md into a five-post thread for X (Twitter) and have it ready for me to schedule on Thursday.”
Writes every part to the X limit and puts the thread in PostEverywhere, ready for you to schedule.
“Generate a clean product image for this release and attach it to the Instagram post.”
Uses generate_image, which spends your plan’s AI credits.
“I scheduled a post about the pricing update earlier today. The launch slipped, so delete it.”
Finds the post by its text and removes it after you confirm.
“Create 20 posts from this CSV of tips, one a day at 10am, in one batch.”
Sends them through bulk_create_posts, up to 50 per call.
“Set up a webhook to my staging URL for failed posts, then send a test event.”
Creates the webhook and fires a test so you can check your handler.
Skills for Claude Code
Install the PostEverywhere plugin in Claude Code with two commands
The plugin bundles the PostEverywhere skills, so Claude Code knows the house rules for each job: how long an X thread should run, when to save a WordPress draft instead of publishing, how to diagnose a failed post before retrying it. Because it can read the files in your repo, the skills that turn existing writing into posts are where it shines.

Repo to calendar
Draft launch posts from your repo in Claude Code
Release day is when posting gets forgotten. Ask Claude Code to draft the announcement while the changelog is still open, then review it where your marketing team works: every post it creates appears in the PostEverywhere calendar, marked Draft or Scheduled. Nobody needs a terminal to edit the wording or move the time.
- Drafts for review.
- create_post with draft set saves the post without scheduling it. Schedule it in the app, or tell Claude Code to schedule it once you are happy.
- Times in UTC, handled for you.
- The API stores every time in UTC. Say “9am New York time” and Claude Code converts it.
- Results you can query.
- get_post_results shows which networks published and which failed, so you can check a launch from the terminal.

Post from Claude Code to every top platform without leaving the terminal
One create_post call can target any mix of your connected accounts. PostEverywhere adapts the request to each network’s API, so the same tool works whether the post is headed for LinkedIn, TikTok or a Telegram channel.

Example data
No local file uploads over MCP. The server imports media from a public URL with upload_media_from_url (images up to 25 MB, MP4 video up to 4 GB, which imports in the background). There is no tool for a file on your disk, so host it first or upload it with the Node SDK.
/mcp shows nothing in another project. The server was added with the default local scope, so it only exists in the folder where you ran the command. Remove it and add it again with -s user, or commit a .mcp.json to the repo for the whole team.
Unauthorized errors. Check the key starts with pe_live_, has no stray spaces or quotes, and has not been revoked on the Developers page. If you use a project .mcp.json, reference the key as an environment variable rather than writing it into a committed file.
Rate limits. Each key gets 60 requests a minute and 1,000 an hour. A 429 response includes Retry-After, and the server passes it through so Claude Code can wait. A 50-post bulk call counts once for the batch plus once per post, so space large batches out. Details are in the rate limits reference.
Posts that fail on one network. YouTube needs a video, TikTok a video or images, Pinterest an image or video, and X Articles need X Premium. Ask Claude Code to call get_platform_rules before it writes, and get_account_health if a login might have expired.
Image generation uses credits. generate_image draws on your plan’s monthly AI credits. To hide the tool from a local server, set MCP_DISABLE_IMAGE_GENERATION in its environment.

One request, one result per accountExample data
Because the hosted server stores nothing, your key is passed straight through to the PostEverywhere API on every request, with the same authentication, workspace scoping and limits as a direct call. Claude Code only ever sees tool names, arguments and results.
The same server works in other coding agents; only the config file changes. Connect Cursor with mcp.json, follow the Codex setup guide for config.toml, or use the Windsurf and Cline guides.
Use the [Node SDK](/developers) when the work is fixed. A nightly job that reposts new blog articles, a webhook handler that announces releases, an agency tool posting for dozens of clients: none of these need a model deciding anything at run time, just typed API calls in CI or a server. The SDK and the MCP server sit on the same REST API, so you can prototype in Claude Code and move the flow into code without changing your data model.
Most teams end up with both: Claude Code for ad hoc housekeeping and launches, the SDK or the CLI for the pipelines that run themselves. Our guide to building a social media agent on the API walks through the code side.

FAQ
Claude Code social media FAQ
Straight answers about plans, platforms and how scheduling works.
How do I add an MCP server to Claude Code?
Use claude mcp add. For PostEverywhere that is one command with the hosted address https://mcp.posteverywhere.ai and an Authorization header holding your API key. Check it with /mcp inside Claude Code or claude mcp list in your shell.
Is the Claude Code MCP server free?
The @posteverywhere/mcp package is open source, and the hosted server is included on every PostEverywhere plan from Lite upward. You need an active plan or trial for the API key it uses.
Which MCP server should I use for social media in Claude Code?
One that publishes through official platform APIs and covers the networks you post to. PostEverywhere’s server reaches all top platforms from one key, with scheduling, drafts, media import, bulk posting, webhooks and account health in the same tool set.
Can Claude Code post to social media without a browser?
Yes. With an API key in the header there is no sign-in window at all, which suits remote machines and long-running sessions. You only use a browser once, to connect your social profiles in PostEverywhere.
Does Claude Code need an API key for PostEverywhere?
Yes, for the command on this page. Create it on the Developers page; it starts with pe_live_ and can be revoked at any time, which instantly stops Claude Code from posting.
How many tools does the PostEverywhere MCP server have?
The full server has 38 tools across posts and scheduling, accounts, media, campaigns, webhooks, the posting queue, platform rules and caption and image generation. Claude Code gets all 38.
Is there a free trial?
Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. Starting it takes a card, the first charge comes after the trial, and you can cancel from your account before then. There is no free plan, but every paid plan includes the API key Claude Code needs.
