Why are my TikTok posts public by default, and how do I change privacy, comments, duet and stitch?
PostEverywhere sends TikTok posts as Public with comments, duet and stitch allowed unless you change them in the TikTok card of the post editor.
Updated 23 October 2026
Unless you change them, PostEverywhere sends TikTok posts as Public, with Comment, Duet and Stitch allowed. Change any of these per post in the TikTok card of the post editor.
Change the settings for a post
- In the post editor, tick your TikTok account.
- Open Customise per platform and the TikTok card.
- Under Who can view this video, pick Public, Friends, Followers or Private (only me).
- Under Allow users to, untick Comment, Duet or Stitch to turn them off.
- Under Disclose commercial content, tick Your brand or Branded content if the post promotes a brand.
The options shown are the ones TikTok allows for your account. Some accounts cannot choose Friends or Followers.
Good to know
- Branded content cannot be private. TikTok refuses that combination, and the editor blocks it.
- Private TikTok account: TikTok refuses public posts from a private account, so posts fail. Set the account to public in the TikTok app.
- Posted as private without asking: in rare cases TikTok only allows private posting for a connected app. PostEverywhere then publishes the post as Private (only me) instead of failing, and the post shows a note saying so. Open the video in the TikTok app to change its privacy.
- Comment, duet and stitch settings apply to that video only. Your account defaults in TikTok are not changed.
