LinkedIn Aspect Ratios in 2026: Feed, Video, Documents & Ads

Jamie Partridge

FounderΒ·May 15, 2026Β·Updated May 15, 2026Β·10 min read
LinkedIn aspect ratios 2026 β€” Feed 4:5, vertical video 9:16, document carousel, company banner

LinkedIn launched a dedicated vertical video feed in late 2024. That single change shifted LinkedIn's recommended aspect ratios more than anything in the previous five years. 9:16 is no longer "TikTok-only" content on LinkedIn β€” it's a first-class format with its own placement, its own analytics surface, and a meaningful organic boost. At the same time, 4:5 portrait is now the recommended feed ratio for static images and document posts. If your LinkedIn aspect ratios haven't been updated since 2023, you're probably leaving reach on the table.

This guide covers every LinkedIn aspect ratio in 2026. For pixel-by-pixel dimensions, see the companion LinkedIn image sizes guide.

Schedule LinkedIn vertical video, document carousels, and feed posts from one calendar. PostEverywhere is built for B2B social. Try the LinkedIn scheduler β†’

The LinkedIn Aspect Ratio Cheat Sheet

Format Aspect Ratio Recommended Pixels
Feed (portrait) 4:5 1080Γ—1350
Feed (square) 1:1 1200Γ—1200
Feed (landscape) 1.91:1 1200Γ—627
Feed video (landscape) 16:9 1920Γ—1080
Feed video (square) 1:1 1080Γ—1080
Vertical video (new) 9:16 1080Γ—1920
Document carousel 4:5 1080Γ—1350
Profile photo 1:1 400Γ—400
Personal background banner 4:1 1584Γ—396
Company logo 1:1 300Γ—300
Company page banner ~5.9:1 1128Γ—191
Hero image (Life tab) 3:1 1128Γ—376
Single image ad 1.91:1, 1:1, 4:5 varies
Video ad 16:9, 1:1, 9:16 varies
Carousel ad 1:1 1080Γ—1080
Message ad banner 300Γ—250 desktop only

The 2026 default: 4:5 portrait (1080Γ—1350) for static and document posts. 9:16 vertical (1080Γ—1920) for short-form video. Keep banner artwork distinct for personal (4:1) vs company (~6:1) β€” they're different aspect ratios.

Feed Post Aspect Ratios

LinkedIn now ranks portrait content higher than square or landscape on the mobile feed β€” same pattern as Instagram and Facebook.

4:5 portrait (1080Γ—1350) β€” Recommended

The recommended ratio for static images and document carousels in 2026. Portrait images take up ~25% more vertical screen space on mobile than square, which matters because most LinkedIn engagement happens on mobile.

1:1 square (1200Γ—1200)

Works on both desktop and mobile equally. Best for assets that need to render cleanly across devices without aspect-ratio considerations. Slightly lower mobile engagement than 4:5.

1.91:1 landscape (1200Γ—627)

The classic LinkedIn link-share ratio. Useful for Open Graph cards, blog post promotions, and external article shares. For pure feed engagement on mobile, 4:5 outperforms.

File specs

  • Format: JPG, PNG, GIF
  • Max file size: 5 MB (organic), 8 MB (some Pages contexts)
  • Minimum: 200Γ—200 px

LinkedIn Vertical Video (9:16) β€” The 2024 Launch

This is the biggest LinkedIn change in years. LinkedIn rolled out a dedicated vertical video feed on mobile in late 2024 and expanded analytics + search in February 2025. The platform now reports +36% video viewership and +67% YoY weekly creation from creators in the program (TechCrunch).

Spec summary

  • Aspect ratio: 9:16
  • Recommended pixels: 1080Γ—1920
  • Length: 3 seconds to 10 minutes (under 60 seconds recommended for the vertical feed)
  • Frame rate: 30 fps
  • Codec: H.264; audio AAC
  • File: MP4, up to 500 MB (sub-200 MB recommended for fast upload)
  • Launched: Vertical video tab on mobile, late 2024; analytics + search Feb 2025

Where it lives

The vertical video tab is mobile-only. On desktop, vertical videos still appear in the organic feed but with letterboxing. As paid creative, vertical assets only deliver to mobile.

Why this matters for B2B creators

LinkedIn vertical video is dramatically less competitive than TikTok or Reels for the same content. Many B2B niches have very few vertical creators on LinkedIn, which means the same 30-second clip you'd struggle to grow with on TikTok can get serious reach on LinkedIn. The format mismatch is the opportunity.

LinkedIn Feed Video (Standard)

For traditional landscape or square video posts (not the dedicated vertical feed):

Orientation Aspect Ratio Recommended Pixels
Landscape 16:9 1920Γ—1080
Square 1:1 1080Γ—1080
Vertical 9:16 1080Γ—1920

Length: 3 seconds to 10 minutes (organic). File: MP4/MOV, max 5 GB; under 200 MB recommended for fast processing.

Safe zone: Keep captions and key text in the centre 1080Γ—1080 region. This ensures the same asset renders cleanly on the desktop 16:9 preview and the vertical video tab.

LinkedIn Document Posts (PDF Carousels)

LinkedIn's document carousels β€” uploaded as PDFs β€” are one of the highest-engagement organic formats on the platform. Reports cite ~3Γ— the engagement of standard image posts.

Spec summary

  • Recommended ratio: 4:5 portrait (1080Γ—1350) β€” highest mobile engagement
  • Alternatives: 1:1 square (1080Γ—1080), 16:9 landscape (1920Γ—1080)
  • File: PDF preferred; PPTX and DOC/DOCX also supported
  • Max file size: 100 MB
  • Max pages: 300
  • Optimal slide count: 8–15 (drop-off after slide 10)

The data: 4:5 portrait carousels consistently outperform 1:1 square because they occupy ~25% more vertical space on mobile, where most swipes happen. If you're producing document carousels, default to 1080Γ—1350.

LinkedIn renders a small "swipe" indicator overlay on slide 1 β€” avoid thin text near the bottom edge of your cover slide. The LinkedIn carousel maker outputs slides at the right 4:5 dimensions.

Profile Photo and Banner

Personal profile photo

  • Aspect ratio: 1:1 (cropped to circle)
  • Recommended: 400Γ—400 px
  • Accepted: 200Γ—200 to 20,000Γ—20,000
  • File: JPG/PNG, up to 8 MB
  • Pitfall: Displayed as circle β€” keep face centred. Logos with square corners get clipped.

Personal background banner

  • Dimensions: 1584Γ—396 px (4:1 aspect ratio)
  • Safe zone: Centre 1200Γ—300 px
  • Pitfall: Profile photo overlays the lower-left on desktop, top-centre on mobile. Keep text right-side or upper-right.

Company Page Assets

LinkedIn company pages have different banner dimensions from personal profiles β€” do not reuse artwork between them.

Company page logo

  • Recommended: 300Γ—300 px (1:1)
  • Minimum: 300Γ—300
  • Max file size: 4 MB
  • Format: PNG with transparency preferred

Company page banner (cover image)

  • Dimensions: 1128Γ—191 px (~5.9:1)
  • File: JPG/PNG/GIF, up to 8 MB
  • Pitfall: Much wider/thinner ratio than personal banner (4:1) β€” don't reuse personal banner artwork
  • 2026 change: No change β€” 1128Γ—191 has been standard since 2020 and remains current

Hero image (Life tab)

  • Dimensions: 1128Γ—376 px (3:1)
  • File: JPG/PNG, up to 8 MB
  • Optional larger modules: 1536Γ—768

What Changed for LinkedIn in 2024–2026

1. Dedicated vertical video feed launched. Late 2024; analytics expanded February 2025. 9:16 vertical (1080Γ—1920) is now a first-class format.

2. 4:5 portrait became the recommended feed ratio. Mobile engagement data drove the shift away from 1:1 square.

3. Carousel/document engagement boom. Document posts now report ~3Γ— the engagement of standard image posts. 4:5 portrait dominates this format.

4. LinkedIn Stories did NOT return. Despite rumours, classic Stories were retired in September 2021 and have not been brought back. The "Stories return" rumours all refer to the new vertical video feed.

5. Video creation up 67% YoY. LinkedIn is now a meaningful video platform for B2B creators, and the algorithm rewards consistent video posting heavily.

Common LinkedIn Aspect Ratio Mistakes

  1. Reusing the personal banner (1584Γ—396, 4:1) as a company banner (1128Γ—191, ~6:1). Different ratios. Resize each separately.

  2. Designing document carousels at 1:1 because "LinkedIn is professional." 4:5 portrait engagement is materially higher. Switch the default.

  3. Posting 16:9 landscape video to the vertical feed. It letterboxes badly. The vertical feed is a 9:16-only surface.

  4. Burning critical text into the bottom of vertical video. Caption tools and engagement icons overlay this zone β€” same pattern as TikTok and Reels.

  5. Ignoring the vertical video feed entirely. Many B2B niches have low competition here. The format mismatch is the opportunity.

  6. Square 1:1 default for all posts. Square works but underperforms 4:5 on mobile. If you're optimising for engagement, default to 4:5.

  7. Logos in the lower-left of the personal banner. The profile photo overlays this corner on desktop. Move logos right or up.

  8. Using stock photo dimensions (3:2 or 16:9) for feed posts. Resize to 4:5 before posting. The image resizer handles this.

Tools to Get LinkedIn Aspect Ratios Right

  • Image resizer β€” convert any image to 4:5, 9:16, or 1:1 LinkedIn formats in one click.
  • LinkedIn carousel maker β€” design 4:5 document carousels at exact dimensions.
  • LinkedIn scheduler β€” schedule vertical video, document posts, and feed posts with format previews.
  • AI image generator β€” outputs LinkedIn-ready images at 4:5 or 1:1.
  • AI video generator β€” produces 9:16 vertical video for LinkedIn's new format.
  • Best time to post β€” LinkedIn-specific timing recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best LinkedIn aspect ratio in 2026?

4:5 portrait (1080Γ—1350 px) for feed posts and document carousels, and 9:16 vertical (1080Γ—1920 px) for short-form video. These two ratios fit LinkedIn's mobile-first algorithm and the new vertical video feed launched in 2024.

What's the LinkedIn vertical video aspect ratio?

9:16 (1080Γ—1920 px), MP4 H.264, 30 fps, 3 seconds to 10 minutes (under 60 seconds recommended for the vertical feed), max 500 MB. LinkedIn rolled out the dedicated vertical video tab in late 2024 with expanded analytics in February 2025.

Has LinkedIn brought back Stories?

No. Classic LinkedIn Stories were retired in September 2021 and have not returned. The "Stories return" rumours all refer to the new vertical video feed β€” which is full posts, not 24-hour ephemeral Stories. Vertical video is the modern replacement.

What's the LinkedIn document carousel aspect ratio?

4:5 portrait (1080Γ—1350 px) for highest engagement. LinkedIn also accepts 1:1 square and 16:9 landscape, but 4:5 occupies ~25% more vertical screen space on mobile and consistently outperforms in engagement metrics. Document carousels overall report ~3Γ— the engagement of standard image posts.

What's the LinkedIn company page banner size?

1128Γ—191 px (~5.9:1 aspect ratio), JPG/PNG/GIF, up to 8 MB. This is different from the personal background banner (1584Γ—396, 4:1) β€” don't reuse artwork. Both spec sizes have been stable since 2020 with no recent changes.

What's the LinkedIn personal profile photo size?

400Γ—400 px (1:1 square, displayed as circle), JPG/PNG up to 8 MB. The accepted range is 200Γ—200 to 20,000Γ—20,000, but 400Γ—400 is the recommended sweet spot for sharp rendering across desktop and mobile.

Should I post vertical video on LinkedIn?

Yes β€” especially for B2B creators. LinkedIn's dedicated vertical video feed (launched late 2024) is dramatically less competitive than TikTok or Reels for similar content. Many B2B niches have few vertical creators on LinkedIn, which makes the format mismatch a real growth opportunity.

Can I cross-post my Reels or TikToks to LinkedIn?

Yes β€” that's the cross-posting case. Export at 1080Γ—1920 (9:16) and the same asset works natively on LinkedIn's vertical video tab. Keep the bottom 250–340 px clear (caption zones differ by platform) and the right edge ~120 px clear (engagement icons).

Specs in this guide are verified as of May 2026 against LinkedIn Help β€” image specifications, LinkedIn Marketing Solutions β€” single image ads, TechCrunch on LinkedIn's vertical video uploads, and Sprout Social's social media video specs guide. LinkedIn updates specs periodically β€” we update this page when they do. For more cross-platform context, see social media aspect ratios and the Instagram aspect ratio guide.
