# YouTube Community Posts in 2026: Rules, Types and Scheduling **Source:** https://posteverywhere.ai/social-media-terms/youtube-community-posts --- # YouTube Community Posts: Rules, Types and Scheduling Social media glossary · YouTube Community posts · Last reviewed July 2026 **Community posts are the text, image, poll, quiz and video updates you publish between uploads.** YouTube renamed the Community tab to *Posts* in early 2025, so Studio now calls them Posts. You need advanced features enabled to publish, not a subscriber count. You can schedule them, but only inside YouTube itself: the Data API has no endpoint for creating posts, so no third-party tool can publish them for you. ## What are YouTube Community posts? Community posts are short updates published straight to your channel, without uploading a video. Per [YouTube's own documentation](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9409631?hl=en), you can use them to "connect and interact with your viewers through polls, quizzes, GIFs, text, music, images, and video." They live on your channel's Posts tab and can also appear in the home feeds and notifications of people who subscribe to you. Their real job is filling the gap between uploads. A channel that publishes weekly is invisible for six days out of seven, and posts keep you in front of your audience during that silence. They are cheap to make, they take minutes rather than hours, and because they surface in the same feed as videos they can meaningfully lift the [engagement rate](https://posteverywhere.ai/social-media-terms/engagement-rate) of a channel that would otherwise go quiet. ### Why they are now called "Posts" If you cannot find the Community tab, that is because it no longer exists under that name. In February 2025, as [Tubefilter reported](https://www.tubefilter.com/2025/02/04/youtube-community-tab-update/), YouTube renamed the tab to Posts. The rename cleared the word "Community" for a genuinely different feature, covered [further down this page](#communities). The posts themselves did not change. Most creators, and most search traffic, still call them Community posts, which is why both names are used interchangeably here. ## Who can publish YouTube Community posts? Access depends on **advanced features**, not on how many subscribers you have. This is the single most out-of-date fact circulating about the feature. Older guides still repeat a 1,000-subscriber gate, and slightly newer ones a 500-subscriber gate. Neither is what governs access now. You unlock advanced features in two steps, described in [YouTube's feature access documentation](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9891124?hl=en). First verify your phone number, which grants intermediate features. Then request advanced access through ID or video verification, or qualify automatically on channel history if you have been posting for long enough in good standing. Established channels are often already eligible without realising it. **Three situations block posts entirely.** Per YouTube Help, posts are unavailable on supervised accounts and on channels whose audience is set to Made for Kids, where the Posts tab stays visible only to you. Posts are also not currently available in Germany. ## Every post type, and the limits that catch people out The character and file limits below come from [YouTube's post creation documentation](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7124474?hl=en). They are tighter than most creators expect, and the poll and quiz caps in particular are easy to write past before you notice. They ask for one tap rather than a comment, which is the lowest friction action on the platform, and they routinely outperform text posts on channels of every size. They are also the fastest way to get a genuine read on what your audience wants next, which beats guessing at your content calendar. > Posts fill the gaps, but the videos are still the engine. PostEverywhere schedules your long-form uploads, Shorts and Premieres through the official YouTube Data API, alongside 10 other platforms in one calendar. [See the YouTube scheduler](https://posteverywhere.ai/youtube-scheduler). ## How to schedule a YouTube Community post Posts can be scheduled, and the option is easy to miss because it hides behind a dropdown rather than sitting next to the compose box. To publish or schedule one: - Sign in to YouTube and select **Create**, then **Create post**. - Type your message, or pick a different format from the menu underneath the compose box. - To publish immediately, select **Post**. To schedule, select the **down arrow next to Post** and choose **Schedule post**. - Set your date, time and timezone, then confirm. One constraint to plan around: YouTube limits how many posts a channel can create in any 24 hour period. Most creators never come close, but if you are batching a week of posts in one sitting, build them as scheduled posts spread across future dates rather than publishing them back to back. ## Can a scheduling tool publish Community posts for you? **No, and this includes us.** The YouTube Data API v3 exposes no endpoint for creating Community posts. Publishing has to happen inside YouTube, whether you post immediately or use YouTube's own scheduler. This matters because several scheduling tools advertise Community post support, and the claim does not survive contact with the API. What those tools can actually do falls into two categories: they either reproduce YouTube's native scheduling from their own interface, which still relies on you being inside YouTube, or they are describing a roadmap item as a shipped feature. If a tool promises to publish Community posts on your behalf, ask which API endpoint it uses. There is not one. What the API *does* support is video: long-form uploads, Shorts and Premieres, with visibility, category and metadata all settable on a schedule. That is the part worth automating, and it is where a [social media scheduler](https://posteverywhere.ai/social-media-scheduler) earns its place. Our guide to [scheduling YouTube videos](https://posteverywhere.ai/blog/how-to-schedule-youtube-videos) covers what is and is not automatable in more detail. ## Posts vs Communities: what actually changed These are two different things with confusingly similar names, and the rename made it worse. Posts are broadcast: you publish, your audience reacts. Communities are a shared space where *your viewers can post too*, closer to a forum attached to your channel. The practical distinction is where content ends up. Per [YouTube's Communities documentation](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/15739414?hl=en), "posts that you or your viewers create from your Community are shared only to your Community, and will not show on the Posts tab," although that content can still reach home feeds and recommendations. So a Community is not a replacement for posting, it is a separate surface with its own audience. Starting a Community has its own requirements: you need existing access to posts, you must be over 16, and your channel cannot be a supervised experience, a Made for Kids channel, or a VEVO channel. You can also set a minimum subscription age before viewers are allowed to post, which is the main lever for keeping the space usable rather than spam-filled. ## How to actually use Community posts well Most channels either ignore posts entirely or use them purely as upload announcements, which trains subscribers to scroll past. The channels that get value from them treat posts as their own format with their own job. ### Ask, do not just announce A poll asking which topic to cover next does three things a "new video is live" post cannot: it generates engagement at the lowest possible friction, it tells you what your audience actually wants, and it gives the people who voted a reason to watch the video they helped choose. Quizzes work similarly for educational channels, where getting an answer wrong creates genuine curiosity about the explanation. ### Post between uploads, not on top of them Posts and videos compete for the same home feed real estate, so publishing a post the same hour as a video splits your own reach. Space them out. A practical rhythm for a weekly channel is one post mid-week to stay visible, and one the day before an upload to prime the audience. Two to four a week is plenty, and the [timing](https://posteverywhere.ai/social-media-terms/dayparting) matters as much as the frequency. ### Reuse what you already made A frame from an upcoming thumbnail, a statistic that got cut from a script, a behind-the-scenes photo: posts are the natural home for material that is not big enough to be a video. If you already run other channels, the same asset usually works as an Instagram or Threads post with minor edits, which is exactly what [cross-posting](https://posteverywhere.ai/cross-posting) is for. Keep the copy native to each platform rather than pasting the same caption everywhere. ### Watch what happens to your video performance Posts are worth doing only if they move something. Track whether the videos that follow an active posting week open stronger than the ones that follow a silent week, and whether poll voters convert into viewers. If you are tracking performance across several channels or platforms at once, our [social media analytics](https://posteverywhere.ai/social-media-analytics) tools pull the numbers into one view. They appear on your channel's Posts tab and can surface in subscribers' home feeds and notifications. YouTube renamed the Community tab to "Posts" in early 2025, so the feature is now labelled Posts in YouTube Studio, though most creators still call them Community posts. Who can create YouTube Community posts?▼You need advanced features enabled on your channel, which you unlock by verifying your phone number for intermediate access and then completing ID or video verification, or by building enough channel history. Per YouTube Help, posts are not available on supervised accounts or on channels with the audience set to Made for Kids, and posts are not currently available in Germany. Do you need 1,000 subscribers for the Community tab?▼No. The old subscriber gate, which was 1,000 subscribers and later 500, no longer determines access. Eligibility is now tied to having advanced features enabled on a channel in good standing rather than to a subscriber count, so small channels that have completed verification can publish posts. Can you schedule YouTube Community posts?▼Yes, but only inside YouTube itself. When composing a post, select the down arrow next to Post and choose Schedule post, then set the date, time and timezone. There is no way to schedule posts from an external tool, because the YouTube Data API does not expose an endpoint for creating them. Can third-party tools schedule YouTube Community posts?▼No. The YouTube Data API v3 has no endpoint for creating Community posts, so no scheduling tool can publish them on your behalf, including PostEverywhere. Any tool advertising this is either describing native YouTube scheduling or overstating what it does. Third-party tools can schedule long-form videos, Shorts and Premieres, which the API does support. What post types can you publish on YouTube?▼YouTube supports text, images, video, polls, quizzes, GIFs, music and playlist posts. Image posts accept up to 10 images at a maximum of 16 MB each in JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP. Polls allow up to four options at 65 characters each, and quizzes are multiple choice with one correct answer plus an explanation of up to 500 characters. What is the difference between Posts and Communities on YouTube?▼Posts are broadcast updates you publish to your channel's Posts tab. Communities are a separate space where your viewers can post too, not just you. Per YouTube Help, anything created inside a Community is shared only to that Community and does not appear on the Posts tab, though it can still surface in home feeds and recommendations. How often should you publish Community posts?▼YouTube caps how many posts a channel can publish in a 24 hour period, and most channels never approach that limit. Two to four posts a week is a common cadence that keeps a channel present between uploads without fatiguing subscribers. Consistency matters more than volume, since posts compete for the same home feed space as your videos. ## Sources and further reading - [YouTube Help: Learn about posts](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9409631?hl=en) - [YouTube Help: Create a post (formats, limits and scheduling)](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7124474?hl=en) - [YouTube Help: Start your Community](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/15739414?hl=en) - [YouTube Help: Get access to intermediate and advanced features](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9891124?hl=en) - [YouTube Help: Learn about feature access for YouTube creators](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9890437?hl=en) - [Tubefilter: YouTube renames the Community tab and expands Communities](https://www.tubefilter.com/2025/02/04/youtube-community-tab-update/) Used by 2,831 happy customers ## Automate the part YouTube lets you automate Community posts have to be published in YouTube.
